This book presents a number of articles representing various disciplines of human sciences and proposes various answers to the question: "How to conceptualize the notion of identity?" Such a range of different approaches highlights complexity of the problem on one hand. On the other hand, the notion of identity is treated here as "tertium comparationis" for interdisciplinary discourse.

This book is devoted to the process of developing the sense of ontological safety, which is always conditioned by the socio-cultural context, in which the subject (defined as an individual or as a society) functions. The characteristics of this context are the most important elements impacting a person's attitude to the wider social reality surrounding him or her.

This volume is a continuation of an earlier project whose result was the book Karnawalizacja. Tendencje ludyczne w kulturze współczesnej [Carnivalisation. Ludic tendencies in contemporary culture]. In this book is presented an interdisciplinary view at an analysis of the problem, which becomes the hedonistic attitude and which is distinctly marked in the culture of our times.

Jedną z już istniejących perspektyw badawczych jest M. Bachtina teoria karnawalizacji. Początkowo termin ten używany był tylko w literaturze, dziś metaforyczna koncepcja tego autora jest stosowana do analizy współczesnych zjawisk kulturowych. Karnawałowe widzenie świata pozwala dostrzec "logikę odwrotności" w kulturze współczesnej.
